Herring baked in swedish

Fluff the finely chopped onions. Grate sour apples on a coarse grater and evenly spread them at the bottom of a refractory form lubricated with fat. Put the onion on top of the apples and the herring fillet on top of it. Sprinkle with a mixture of grated cheese and breadcrumbs. Put in a well-heated oven and bake for 15 - 20 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes.
