Herring stewed with vegetables

Soak the herring, peel, cut off the heads, divide into pieces. Put pieces of herring, peeled, shaved carrots, finely chopped onions, parsley and celery in a refractory glass mold. Pour everything with a mixture of butter, mashed tomato, sugar and spices. Close with a lid and simmer over low heat or in the oven until the vegetables are ready. Serve boiled or baked potatoes in a "uniform" on the side dish.
