Heat the tar or vegetable oil in a shallow saucepan. shred the cabbage like noodles, put in a saucepan and keep on a moderate heat for about an hour until browned. stir from time to time with a spoon and pour, if necessary, on a spoon of water. salt the cabbage and place a few peppercorns. if desired, it can be acidified with citric acid dissolved in water.
