"apples with eight jewels"

Peel the apples from the skin and cut off the tops to make a kind of "lid" (do not remove the peduncle). Carefully remove the core with the seeds, rinse and dry. Rinse the rice, add some water and steam until semi-cooked. Cut apricot or peach seeds, plums, raisins, candied fruits, dates and pumpkin seeds into identical small cubes. Mix the chopped sweets with the rice and sugar. Fill the prepared apples with the resulting mass and cover with "caps, " fixing them with wooden studs. Put the apples on a steamer rack and cook for a couple of 20 minutes. To prevent apples from losing shape, the temperature should not be very high. While the apples are cooking, cut into very small cubes of gingerbread. Put the finished apples on a large heated dish, decorate with gingerbread cubes and serve.
