Cut the cabbage into squares, peel and dice the potatoes, grate the carrots on a coarse grater. Put the cabbage and carrots in a saucepan, pour in some water and cook until the cabbage is cooked. Then put the potatoes, salt, bring to a boil, pour in the hot milk, put the butter and cook over a low heat until tender.
