How to make potato soup with salted herring: Peel the onions, carrots and celery root (or parsley), then wash thoroughly. Cut the vegetables into large cubes.
Peel the herring. To do this, cut off all the fins and head from the herring. Put a knife on part of the skin, starting from the tail. Remove skin. Cut the abdomen, remove the insides. Rinse the carcass with cold water. Near the tail, carefully separate half of the fish fillet from the ridge. Then also separate the second fillet. Remove the bones. Cut the fillet into small pieces or straws.
Heat the pan with vegetable oil. Put carrots in hot oil. Stirring, fry the carrots over medium heat until soft (3-4 minutes).
Transfer carrots without oil to a separate container. Send celery to the pan and fry for 3-4 minutes too.
Then fry the onions in the same way.
Peel the potatoes, wash, cut into pieces.
Boil 1. 5 liters of water. Put fried carrots, onions and celery in boiling water.
Cover the pan with a lid and cook the vegetables over a low heat for 10-20 minutes.
Then add the potatoes. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
When the potatoes are cooked until half cooked, add chopped herring fillet to the soup.
Cook the soup with the fish for another 10-15 minutes.
Wash fresh tomatoes, cut into wedges.
Add the tomatoes 5 minutes before the end of cooking the salted herring soup.
At the same stage, add bay leaves, peppers and salt to taste.
Wash the parsley and dill greens, finely chop.
When the potato soup with salted herring is ready, add chopped greens to the pan.
