Roll


"Roll" comes from the familiar word "role" - as the scroll was called in antiquity, on which texts for actors or speakers were recorded. Then this root came to European languages ​ ​ and it was from the French "Rouler," meaning "roll," that the name roll arose. More details about the steering...Thus, a roll is actually any dish, a snack that is folded into a tube. Three groups of recipe rolls can be distinguished: meat rolls, vegetable rolls and sweet rolls. In addition, some snacks that are held together with skewers are also called rolls: cheese rolls (cheese rolls), salmon rolls, etc.

Meat roll is made from chop meat, usually contains filling - vegetables, cheese, fish. According to the recipe, meat rolls are first fried, stewed in broth or wine, and then the roll is cut. Sometimes rolls are made from chopped meat or even minced meat. This is how a chicken roll, a minced meat roll, a meat roll with an egg, a pork roll, a minced meat roll with an egg, and a minced meat roll are prepared. It is important to know that the classic recipe for chicken roll provides for a special cutting of chicken: you need to remove all the insides and bones so that only a layer of meat remains on the skin.

The most common vegetable rolls are eggplant rolls.

Sweet roll is made from biscuit pastry or puff pastry. Sponge roll is baked, greased from the inside with cream or jam, after which it is rolled up and allowed to soak the dough. The finished biscuit roll is cut already at the table. If the recipe for sponge roll came to us at one time from Austria-Hungary, then the recipe for poppy roll is a Ukrainian culinary heritage.

The culinary novelty of recent years is pita roll. In principle, this is only another name for shaverma, gyros and similar dishes. Lavash is convenient in that you can wrap any products in it. Therefore, pita roll recipes are so numerous and popular.
