Primrose

Primrose...

Many people know this flower called primrose: when the primrose snow comes off, one of the first appears in the gardens and on the edges, warmed by the early sun. It was thanks to this property that the primrose got its name - primrose. By the way, due to the fact that primrose flowers appear in early spring, people often confuse it with snowdrops.

Meanwhile, the primula is called a perennial plant, which refers to herbs. The height of this flower hardly exceeds 25 centimeters. The umbrella inflorescences of the primrose are very fragrant and, as a rule, have a yellow color. There are about several dozen species of primrose that grow in our country.

Interestingly, the leaves of the primrose are quite edible, so they are used as food in fresh form. So, they are added not only to a variety of salads and vinaigrettes, but also to soups and roasts. Due to the content of vitamins such as carotene and ascorbic acid in them, primrose leaves are especially useful during the period of vitamin deficiency, most often falling precisely in the early spring, when this flower appears.

Dried leaves and primrose roots can be used as dressing for different meals, which must first be ground to a powder state. By the way, several leaflets of this wonderful plant contain such an amount of vitamins that can cover their required daily allowance for a healthy person.

Primrose species

Several modern primrose species are known, among which the common primrose (P. Vulgaris) is well known to everyone. This plant grows quite quickly, giving dozens of light yellow, and sometimes white inflorescences that form a dense beautiful cap.

In addition, breeders have now bred many other primrose species with purple, blue, yellow plain and terry flowers. They also have an attractive appearance, and therefore are popular among lovers of these colors.

Benefit of primrose

It is worth noting that vitamins - carotene and ascorbic acid - are distinguished among the active substances present in the above-ground part of the plant. Primrose roots contain essential oils, saponins, and glycosides. In addition, in all parts of this plant there are large amounts of manganese salts, which indicates the clear benefits of primrose for human health.

The benefits of primrose are also known in traditional medicine, where its exhilarating effect is relevant. That is why it is used as a natural remedy for tracheitis, sore throat, colds, bronchitis, headaches, neurosis, insomnia, laryngitis and other diseases. By the way, all parts of the plant, along with such herbs as chamomile, anise and plantain, are often included in drug collections and teas.
