Cheddar cheese

Cheddar cheese...

Cheeses occupy one of the main places in the dairy family, and not only due to their gastronomic qualities, but also healing properties due to the high content of nutrients. Take cheddar cheese, which is the most popular type of cheese in England, although it is loved all over the world. This dairy product was invented five centuries ago in the English village of Cheddar, in Somerset. Like many other products, cheddar cheese is seen to have been named after its geographical place of appearance.

Many are attracted to this cheese with its vibrant colour, which can range from ivory to rich orange. The consistency of the cheese is quite plastic, and the taste and aroma are dominated by nutty notes with a slightly island-sour taste. The calorie content of cheddar cheese is quite high and amounts to 380 kcal per 100 grams of dairy product.

To produce this cheese, which belongs to solid varieties, whole raw or pasteurized milk is needed. It is usually customary to use milk from cows. After the entire technological process of manufacture, cheddar cheese is wrapped in fabric, where it ripens from two months to six months, and sometimes, by the way, this one can take about five years. Usually, this type of cheese is produced in the form of a cylinder, which weighs from 27 to 35 kilograms.

Due to the increased fat and calorie content, cheddar cheese needs special attention when used in a variety of dishes. For example, it is recommended to rub it quite finely, since during heat treatment it does not melt quickly enough. It is customary to add cheddar cheese to sauces by removing them from the fire, otherwise they can separate and become oily.

With this cheese, omelette is quite often prepared, and also used to make sandwiches. Cheddar cheese makes a truly luxurious sauce that melts on hot potatoes or forms a mouth-watering dish with grilled vegetables.

Young cheddar cheese is served to red wines with a fruit bouquet, and a more aged dairy product works perfectly well with port. Interestingly, in our homeland, this cheese is used in a strange combination for us - with bananas and mustard.

Cheddar cheese composition

In its composition, cheddar cheese is not much different from its brethren made from cow's milk. It is rich in vitamins, minerals and many vital amino acids.

In addition, cheddar cheese contains a large amount of fat, which makes it a rather nutritious product that should not be abused. A couple of pieces a day is enough to replenish the body's reserves with such useful substances as, for example, calcium and phosphorus.
