Basically, it is used as a mandatory ingredient in the preparation of a variety of cocktails (in particular low alcohol). Grenadine syrup is valued for its ability to give the resulting drinks a special taste and a distinctive pinkish hue. In addition, it can be added to desserts, ice cream, mousse, souffle and other sweet dishes.

It is noteworthy that the Grenadine can also be called liqueurs, which are produced, for example, by De Cuyper and J. R. Phillips, in connection with which, when purchasing a drink, you should carefully study the label so as not to inadvertently treat children with an alcoholic product.

Meanwhile, the name Grenadine syrup comes from the French word grenade, which means pomegranate. In addition, Grenada is considered the birthplace of this sweet drink. In addition, initially the Grenadine was called exclusively a drink, which was made on the basis of pomegranate juice and sugar.

Composition of Grenadine syrup

Today, by the way, the Grenadines are often called syrups and drinks, produced not only from pomegranate, but also other fruits and berries, for example, raspberries, as well as black and red currants. Often, in the composition of Grenadine syrup, instead of natural pomegranate juice, there are substitutes of artificial origin.

For example, Mott makes such a syrup from water, corn syrup and citric acid, so, by and large, this drink is not much different from identical products with citrus taste. Also, often in the composition of Grenadine syrup, corn syrup is diluted with cherry juice, which leads to the prevailing erroneous opinion regarding the taste of real syrup - many are sure that Grenadine is a cherry-flavored drink.

Fortunately, there are still producers who produce real Grenadine syrup. In particular, in France it is Monin, and in the USA - Sonoma Syrup. Their products contain 10 percent pomegranate juice as part of Grenadine syrup.

By the way, you can cook almost identical, or maybe even the best quality Grenadine syrup. You can make it at home. In fact, the finished product will be an alternative to pomegranate sauce, however, with a distinctive sweet taste.

To do this, pomegranate juice in the same proportions is mixed with sugar sand, after which the concentrated solution is boiled until the consistency of the syrup becomes sufficiently thick. Or rather, you need to cook sweet juice until it halves in volume.
