Today, several types of verbene are known, but it is lemon verbene that distinguishes from others the strong aroma of essential oil, which is obtained on the basis of this plant, cultivated in Tunisia, southern France and Algeria as culinary, perfume and medicinal raw materials.

It is customary to obtain verbene essential oil by steam distillation from the flowers and leaves of the plant, since it is in these parts that it contains a larger amount. As a rule, the crop of the plant is small, so verbene essential oil is produced in extremely limited quantities. This causes a high cost of natural (that is, without adding synthetic substances) lemon verbene oil.

Externally, verbene oil is a transparent, saturated, fluid, volatile liquid, with a lemon or yellowish tint. It is characterized by a strong, sweet, peppery, lemon smell with bright floral and fruit notes.

Major components in verbene essential oil are pyrrole, citral, furfurol, carvone, limonene, cineol, myrcene, sesquiterpenes, caryophyllene, linalool, borneol, terpineol, geraniol, nerol, nerolidol. In addition, this oil contains cedrol, isovaleric and acetic acid esters, verbenin, verbenalin, vanillin, iron, moslen, neroline, cinnamaldehyde, bornylacetate, and citrallinolacetate.

In cooking, natural verbena oil can be included in the recipe for making lemonades, which can quickly quench thirst. In addition, the aroma of this plant is perfectly combined with products such as some types of cheese, strawberries, poultry and fish. As an aromatic additive, it can be found in sauces and marinades. Various creams, jams, souffles, mousses, sorbes, jelly and puddings acquire a unique aroma and taste when literally a few drops of lemon verbena oil are added.

This is not to mention the numerous beneficial properties of verbene oil, which cause the widespread use of this natural substance for medicinal purposes. Thus, this essential oil is characterized by antispasmodic, anticonvulsant and antisclerotic effects. Its use contributes to the optimization of microcirculation, including cerebral, thereby eliminating problems associated with migraines, frequent headaches, dizziness, decline in strength, hypotension, nausea, VSD and seasickness.

Verbene oil is called a powerful detoxic, cleansing, diuretic, decongestant, which is additionally able to normalize blood pressure. By improving digestive processes, it also has a mild choleretic effect, and also eliminates constipation. Through the use of essential oil, verbenes can stimulate metabolism, normalize water-salt balance, reduce weight, preventing the development of obesity.

A special property of verbena oil has also been proven, which is to eliminate hangover and withdrawal syndromes. By exerting a geroprotective effect, this natural remedy helps to eliminate tremors. Verbene oil is effective and as an accompanying therapy in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and alcoholism.
