The peculiar smell of geranium has long been appreciated as an effective remedy for headaches, which is additionally able to increase mental activity and give vigor. It is believed that geranium essential oil is suitable for the elderly, however, the properties of geranium oil are not limited only to anti-aging manifestations. Geranium oil is used in many industries - perfume, cosmetic and soap - but it is also used quite actively by cooking.

It is customary to obtain geranium essential oil from the green part of the plant using steam distillation. In appearance, this concentrate is a rather well-flowing transparent liquid, which is characterized by variations in brown or green shades of color.

Geranium oil is characterized by a characteristic tart floral smell that vaguely resembles the aroma of a rose and mint. The aroma of geranium oil, like all essential oils of flowers, is laid out into 3 notes: the upper is sweet, the middle is warm and tart, the lower is bitter.

Due to the fact that geranium essential oil is quite specific, it does not combine well with most of the rest of the essential oils, so it is better to use it yourself, and not in the composition. The only complementary aroma is eucalyptus aroma.

Composition of geranium oil

Depending on the type of raw material used, the chemical composition of geranium oil may vary, but on average it has at least one hundred components. So, among them we can single out the main ones, including geraniol, citronellol, linalool, a-terpineol and nerol.

Geranium essential oil is characterized by a wide range of healing properties. Undoubtedly, this natural concentrate is well known as an effective drug for the treatment of otorhinolaryngological diseases, in particular it can eliminate pain and inflammation of the sinuses, middle ear, throat and tonsils.

Geranium oil also effectively relieves vascular cramps and, as a result, relieves migraines. In addition, it is able to have a favorable effect on the heart muscle, improving microcirculation in it and stabilizing its work. Additionally, the use of geranium oil can help with ischemia and tachycardia. It has been scientifically proven that with systematic long-term use, geranium oil even equalizes blood pressure.
