Black pepper is undoubtedly considered one of the most common basic spices. However, few people know that in addition to directly improving the aroma and taste of dishes, it can also play an important role as an antibacterial additive that prevents food intoxications. At the same time, the antiseptic properties of black pepper are not limited: it is based on a truly unique essential oil, which has a wide range of cosmetic and healing properties.

With the help of natural black pepper oil, you can bring savoury notes to perfume compositions. In addition, the aromatic properties of black pepper oil are also relevant for cooking - it is used to flavour some drinks, coffee and tea, pastries, hot dishes, as well as when preparing homemade cheeses.

Black pepper essential oil is obtained by steam extraction of vegetable raw materials, which is crushed dried fruits of perennial liana. In appearance, black pepper oil is an almost colorless liquid, sometimes with a slight greenish overflow. During the storage process, this natural product darkens somewhat towards a yellowish shade, which allows you to determine the freshness of the black pepper oil that you have acquired. By the way, the shelf life of this essential oil is at least five years.

It is noteworthy that when buying black pepper oil, you need to be careful: always check the Latin name of this natural product - Piper nigrum. This is due to the rather common appearance, when completely different products are distributed under the name of this pepper - for example, oil made on the basis of immature fruits of Indian kubeb pepper, red, Jamaican fragrant and even Ceylon high pepper. The latter is characterized by a richer aroma and sharp taste, while its oil is a liquid of viscous consistency, green shade and aroma mixed with ginger.

Meanwhile, the aroma of black pepper oil is very similar to the tones of the smell of freshly acquired spice - pleasant, warm and pronounced warming. The aroma of pepper oil belongs to medium and rather volatile perfume notes, and in mixtures with other essential oils it can play the role of nuance, thanks to which it is easy to choose complementary aromas for it.

The main properties of black pepper oil are due to its gastrotonic, antioxidant, geroprotective, antidepressant, analgesic, euphoric, anti-cellulite and eroticizing actions. Previously, this essential oil was used by eastern healers in the treatment of various infectious diseases (in particular cholera, malaria, food toxicinfections and dysentery). In addition, the anti-epidemic property of black pepper oil was its ability to protect perfumers from infection with plague pathogens.
