Algae dals

Algae dals...

Dals is not only the common name for some varieties of seaweed that are eaten, but also this very red inhabitant of the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. Scots, Irish and English most often call the species "Rhodymenia palmata, " which grows on the rocky coast of the Atlantic Ocean. However, not only residents of Foggy Albion can use dal algae for food - these algae also grow in the coastal zones of North America, and therefore are a very common food in Canada.

This algae with a slightly astringent savoury taste has long been used for food by ordinary residents of the coastal regions of Scotland and Ireland, where it was added during the preparation of various soups and second courses. Usually dal algae can be purchased in supermarkets in dried form, cut into narrow strips. Before eating, this seaweed should be soaked in cold water for ten minutes and then added to the soup or stew, generally at its discretion. And sometimes dals seaweed is simply boiled, fried in vegetable oil, after which it is served as a vegetable side dish for meat or fish dishes.
