The excellent taste and beneficial properties of the terpug made this fish an important object not only of amateur, but also of commercial fishing, which is produced using bottom trawls in the open sea and seines in the coastal area. It is noteworthy that terpug fish also account for a fairly significant proportion of bycatch during the extraction of other species of bottom fish. Thus, the total catch of terpug in Russia is approximately 60 thousand tons annually.
The markets of our country receive terpug fish, which is caught in the Far Eastern seas by domestic ships. It is usually available on sale in frozen (steak, carcass or fillet) and smoked form, and closer to the fishing sites - in a cooled state.
