Stingray fish

Stingray fish...

Stingray fish do not belong to any one species of water inhabitants - this is a representative of one of the two existing superorders of cartilaginous lamellar fish. In general, stingrays include 15 families and 5 orders, and for all these fish, the characteristic difference is the presence of a sufficiently flattened body along with large pectoral fins, which completely fuse with the head.

Outwardly, the stingray fish is a rather interesting representative of the kingdom of underwater inhabitants, in which the nostrils, mouth and 5 pairs of gills are located on the lower flat and, as a rule, light side of the body. The tail of the stingray fish is characterized by a beat-shaped shape. In color, the upper part of these mainly marine fish, due to their adaptability to a particular living space, varies from pale sandy to almost black. On it are eyes and holes - sprays, which are necessary for fish to breathe.

For culinary purposes, stingray wings are used, which are rightfully considered a delicacy in many countries of the world, for example, in Portugal and France. In Korean cuisine, stingray fish is usually consumed raw (in the form of hwe): eating with it in the local dialect is called honohwe chomuchhim and is a regional specialization of Jeollado, a province of South Korea.

No less important is the skin of stingrays, which is distinguished by durability and unusual texture. Its main purpose is to use in the leather industry - it is great for making bags, belts, wallets, portfolios and other items necessary for a person. By the way, it was the skin of the ray fish that tightened the handles of the katan (Japanese swords).

Species of rays

Most species of stingrays are used to living a near-bottom lifestyle and feeding on molluscs, echinoderms and crayfish. Pelagic species of stingrays, in turn, can consume plankton and small fish.

Manta is considered one of the most famous species of rays. Rays from the eagle family differ in large sizes, the wingspan of which often reaches two and a half meters with a body length of up to five meters. Stingrays of the stingrays family differ in the following dimensions: up to

5. 5 meters in length with a width of

2. 1 meters. A relatively large species of stingrays is a sea cat (stingrays), which can be found in the Azov and Black Seas.

It is impossible not to mention a special weapon, which is endowed with a detachment of electric rays. Representatives of this type of stingrays with the help of a special organ, which is transformed from muscles, are able to paralyze their prey with electric discharges, the power of which is 60-230 volts and more than thirty amperes.
