We think few people guess that the herring fish is actually a subspecies of Atlantic herring, which lives mainly in the Baltic Sea, as well as in the Kaliningrad and Curonian bays. The herring fish belongs to the herring family and lives in seawater. However, the herring can also be found in fresh waters in Switzerland.

Herring fish are often passed off as canned sprats. Small herrings are similar in appearance and taste to the Baltic delicacy, so often unscrupulous producers do not even change the name to a can. It is believed that the most successful autumn race of herring for industrial extraction and harvesting, this fish is meatier and larger in size. Interestingly, in addition to small fish in size, real giants are found in the rows of herring, which reach unprecedented sizes for this fish - 37 cm.

Herring fish is mined on an industrial scale year-round. Usually, on the shelves of the store, the herring gets fresh or frozen. Most of the catch of the herring goes to the manufacture of canned food - "sprats in oil, " "sprat" or "anchovy. " Smoked herring or smoked meat is very tasty. In culinary recipes, it is often suggested to fry the herring in a pan with sunflower oil. The Finns invented their national dish with salaka fish, which is baked in sour cream with the addition of herbs.
