One of the favorite snacks of almost every Soviet person is sprat fish, which in Russia is considered one of the cheapest fish, and in the West - a delicacy. By the way, not everyone knows that under the word "sprat" there is not a certain type of fish, but several belonging to the herring family. Sprats and tulips are the same sprats. Currently, the Baltic and Caspian sprats, the Black Sea and European sprats, as well as the Azov-Black Sea tulip are the most widespread. The maximum length of sprat fish hardly exceeds 10 centimeters. Undoubtedly, it looks like herring, but much smaller.

Spiced salted sprat sprats along with canned smoked sprats, which today are a gastronomic symbol of the Estonian capital, have achieved a special status on the world market. Although the undeniable brand of the Baltic town, this miniature fish, only the size of a finger, has been considered for 3 centuries, and the same tin can with the silhouette of Tallinn is easily recognized far beyond the country.

Today, we can easily purchase sprat fish in canned, salted and freshly frozen form, and at affordable prices. Due to the known beneficial and tasting properties of sprats, it is in constant demand both among people with low incomes and with great wealth.

For culinary purposes, freshly frozen sprat fish is often pickled, salted, and home-made sprats are also made from it or simply fried in sunflower oil. It works beautifully with vegetables, which remarkably complement fried fish in flour breading. By the way, you can easily get rid of the specific, rather unpleasant smell of sprat fish for some people by holding it for a short time in acetic salt solution. Another advantage of this fish trifle is the ability to save the hostess time, since the sprat does not need to be cleaned.

The useful properties of sprat fish are due to the presence of a huge amount of calcium, which is simply necessary for the normal functioning of many systems of the human body. After all, a person, from the tips of hair to the tips of nails, directly depends on the systematic receipt of this valuable element, since calcium affects the formation of bone tissue, which in turn manifests itself on a slender and beautiful posture and a snow-white smile.
