Whigna (cow pea)

Whigna (cow pea)...

Whigna (Cow peas) is not peas or beans, as many mistakenly believe, but a very productive plant that belongs to the Bean family. The birthplace of the Whig is Central Africa, where this plant can be of a wide variety of shapes: both short and long pods. We only know whine (cow peas) with very long, sometimes up to one meter, pods that are completely devoid of fibers. By the way, this plant is often confused with green beans, but long pods are uncharacteristic for the latter species.

In general, whig (cow peas) is a very common plant in many countries of the world - nutritious salads are prepared from it, canned, and also added to the second and dishes. As a rule, immature fruits of the Whig (cow peas) are used for food, the size of which hardly exceeds wheat grain. If we are talking about collecting this plant for seeds, then you need to wait until the pods are well ripe.

This is a rather profitable crop in economic terms, since it has a high yield: you can get up to three kilograms of beans from one whig plant (cow peas). In addition, even with long-term storage, it is practically not affected by pests and, which is also important, the plant takes up very little space on the site.

Whig beans (cow peas) differ in different shapes, colors and even size. For example, Japanese varieties are painted matte black with a pod length of up to 1 meter. American varieties of whig (cow peas) give pods up to 30 centimeters in length with beans of a light cream shade. As for immigrants from Korea, their small grains are characterized by the color of coffee and milk.

It is impossible not to pay attention to the fact that the whig (cow peas) is one of the main ingredients of a very popular dish in the south of the United States called Galloping John. This traditional dish is made from fresh whig pods (cow peas), chopped onions, rice and bacon slices, which are seasoned with salt, garlic and hot pepper.

In addition, this legume crop is incredibly good for human health. It is advised to use it even in the presence of diseases such as diabetes mellitus, low blood, obesity, diseases of the stomach, gallbladder and liver, as well as gout, urolithiasis, diseases of the pancreas.

In the seeds and leaves of the whig (cow peas), the substance arginine is contained, like insulin, which has a beneficial effect on the quantitative indicators of blood sugar. In addition, tea based on dry twig blades (cow peas) is also relevant in diabetes mellitus due to the fact that it contributes to the regulation of blood sugar levels.
