Edamam

Edamam...

The unusual name edamam hides the product, which is soybeans that are harvested until they are fully ripe. This vegetable crop is essentially green soybeans that have just formed. As a rule, it is customary to receive such a harvest only once a year, but if the planting stretches in time, then the fruits are removed much longer. So, later pods can be removed, for example, until September.

The places of growth of edamam absolutely coincide with the distribution area of ordinary soybeans. High-quality beans are obtained under favorable conditions, which are combined with regular watering and careful care. This is how especially large soybean fruits are cultivated. Most often, all edamam pods ripen at the same time, in connection with which they are quickly cut until the beans themselves are hard, and the pods have not lost their bright green color.

It is customary to remove the fruits with the plant, cutting it off at the very base, after which the pods are stripped and washed well. In the next step, the edamam is boiled in salted water for about ten minutes, and then the boiled pods are placed in ice water and hush. Ready-to-eat green beans are packaged into bags and frozen. Both hushed green beans and whole edamama pods go on sale.

This product is considered a high-quality and at the same time low-calorie food. That is why supporters of healthy eating in eastern countries, for example, in Japan, often use edamam in their national cuisine.

Interestingly, edams can be served as a vegetable snack, which at the same time can replace a dish of meat. The oily and crispy texture of edamam along with the strong scent of green beans make them a great accompaniment to beer. In addition, edams can act as a good alternative to regular snacks - thanks to these beans, you can eat in any setting - at a party, at home or at work.

If you use green bean pods, you need to rinse them before eating, and then add them to soups or salads, as well as make independent dishes based on them. By the way, the popularity of edamam in Asian countries is constantly growing, and in recent years in America as well. The subtle sweetness present in the taste of these beans is unusually impressive for Western cuisine.

As you know, the fruits of green beans contain very healthy fats along with essential fatty polyunsaturated omega-3 acids. In addition, they have a lot of fiber, folic acid, as well as B vitamins. Due to the presence of all these substances, the use of edamam helps to reduce the risk of heart disease.
