Capercaillie meat

Capercaillie meat...

Capercaillie is one of the largest birds that belong to the Chicken family. So, the size of a capercaillie can be compared with the size of a turkey. On average, the weight of male capercaillie can be 3-

6. 5 kilograms, while female individuals are from
1. 5 to 2, 5 kilograms.

This bird enjoys increased popularity among lovers of both commercial and sports hunting. The name of this bird is associated with the fact that during the mating season, male sensitivity and vigilance are greatly dulled, and therefore they represent a rather tempting prey for hunters.

In search of food, this large and rather clumsy bird often moves on the ground. By the way, females differ in appearance from males: male birds have a dark gray or brown color, and females are brownish-red with black speckles. In addition, male capercaillie have a powerful light beak and black tail, which has a jet pattern and vague white spots.

Capercaillie is very widespread in Russian forests, but it can also be found in the Alps, Carpathians, Sweden, Greece, Asia Minor and Spain. True, it is worth noting that the number of this bird is decreasing annually.

Capercaillie meat is dark in color and is considered very tasty and juicy. It has a light aroma and a taste of needles, which can be removed by marinating capercaillie meat in red wine. In addition, often for this purpose, an unclipped and unspoiled carcass of a capercaillie is hung by the head for two or three days in a cool place, which significantly improves the taste of its meat.

Many hunters like to bake a pre-clay-coated bird carcass in coals or right in the ground. At home, it is recommended to cook capercaillie meat in an oven. In addition, it can be boiled and then used to make delicious salads.

In general, capercaillie meat is recognized as very useful for the human body, so vitamins A, B, E, PP and H are contained in its composition along with the necessary minerals - potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, iron, chlorine, sulfur, fluorine, copper, tin, molybdenum, nickel and some others.
