In fact, meat bread is not bread at all, but a dish made on the basis of minced meat or chopped meat, which is formed in the form of a loaf of bread. That is why meat bread has such an unusual name. The calorie content of meat bread is about 256 kcal.

In English, meat bread is called meatloaf, and the word loaf is used in relation to any products that have a loaf-like shape - this can also be called baked goods like muffins, as well as meat products. As a rule, meat bread is formed in two ways: either they give a loaf-like shape with the help of hands, and then put on a roasting pan, or simply put the mince in a special bread baking dish.

Meat roll has European roots - the first mention of this dish goes back to the fifth century, when the recipe for its preparation is first found in the famous Roman recipe collection Apicius. In general, meat roll is considered a traditional German or Belgian dish, and in fact it is a cousin of a Dutch meatball.

The American meatloaf finds much in common with a dish called scrapple, which is a mixture of crushed pork and cornmeal - it has been eaten by German Americans in Pennsylvania since Colonial times. Nevertheless, the modern version of this dish did not appear in cookbooks until the late 19th century.

It is worth noting that there are simply a huge number of recipes for preparing meatloaf, and the main difference between one dish and another is achieved not only by changing the additional ingredients, but also by the sauces that accompany it. Basically, meat bread is served with ketchup or tomato sauce.

Almost any type of meat can be used as a basis for preparing meat bread: pork, beef, veal, lamb, venison or poultry. Chopped meat or minced meat is mixed with a variety of fillings, mainly boiled eggs, bread crumbs or soy texture, pieces of bread soaked in liquid (milk, water or red wine).

In addition, often almond or oat flour is added to the composition of meat bread in order to give the minced meat a dough-like state. Often, in addition to salt, this product contains aromatic spices and herbs (for example, parsley), as well as crushed vegetables (onions or spring onions, sweet peppers and celery).

Some recipes for cooking meat bread also add strips of bacon, which are placed on top. An already appetising dish is often additionally stuffed, laying boiled eggs, cheese, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms or a combination of these components in the middle.
