Lasagna is considered one of the most popular dishes of Italian cuisine along with pizza. The classic version of this dish is a few layers of dried dough based on wheat flour, which are layered with a variety of fillings. As a rule, it is a meat, mushroom or vegetable filler. All this is poured with a special sauce, after which it is sprinkled with crushed cheese and stirred for baking in the oven.

By the way, it was thanks to the lasagna sheets that this Italian dish got its famous name. If you delve into etymology, you can find out that the word lasagna has its roots in the ancient Greek λάσανα (lasana), which means hot plates. A little later, this term was borrowed by the Romans, who called the dish lasagna - as it is called to this day.

Lasagne Sheet Composition

As for the composition of lasagne sheets, they are made from flour, which is made exclusively from solid varieties of wheat, salt, eggs and milk. But this variant is more characteristic of making lasagne sheets at home. Relative to the industrial product, such a base for lasagne is prepared from the same flour with the addition of chicken eggs.

In the process of making lasagne sheets at home, wheat flour is poured with a slide in which a depression is made. I add eggs, salt and milk there in certain proportions. Everything is thoroughly kneaded and, as a result, a cool elastic dough is obtained. The most difficult stage of preparation is rightfully considered to be the rolling of dough, since the layer should be uniform, without creases and very thin (no more than one and a half millimeters). Otherwise, lasagne sheets can badly spoil the end result.

In order to avoid all these difficulties, many culinary experts prefer to purchase ready-made sheets for industrial lasagne. By the way, the composition of sheets for lasagne of factory manufacture, although it does not differ in variety, but, as they say, the simpler it is, the tastier the dish. So, you can buy this product in grocery stores in the department with pasta. The calorie content of lasagne sheets is about 350 kcal per hundred grams of dry product.

The price of lasagne sheets, although slightly higher than high-quality pasta, is quite enough to make a three-layer dish three to four times.
