We think such a type of festive white bread as a loaf is familiar to the overwhelming majority of the inhabitants of our latitudes. It is also interesting that in the culture of some Slavic states, the word loaf means not only wedding bread, but also other types of festive bakery products made of prime grade wheat flour.

The tradition of making caravays dates back to the time of Ancient Egypt, when at the wedding ceremony it was customary for newlyweds to give freshly baked ritual bread as a sign of fertility and further well-being in family life. Over time, the tradition passed into the cultures of the Romans and Greeks, from where it spread to Slavic lands. Since the Slavs worshiped the supreme god of the Sun, ritual bread was made in the form of a circle, which symbolized the heavenly luminary.

In addition to the wedding ceremony, the caravan plays one of the main roles in the process of a solemn meeting of guests. Until now, there is a tradition in the Slavic states, according to which it is customary to meet dear guests "with bread and salt. " Usually, the loaf will interfere with the sewn rushnik and put salt and salt on top. This tradition is designed to show guests the highest location and respect of the owners.

Types of caravays

Currently, there are a sufficient number of recipes according to which various types of caraves can be prepared. Among the main types of caraves can be distinguished wedding, festive, as well as memorial. As a rule, high-quality wheat flour, baker's yeast, cow's milk, chicken eggs and other ingredients are used to make various types of caravays.
