Rice
The oldest cereal crop, which has unique nutritional and healing properties, is fig. In the East, for example, it has long been considered a mandatory component of every meal. With a relatively low calorie content, rice is really good for the human body in terms of dietetics.
All over the world, rice is not just eaten, but very much loved and revered by this product. It is truly versatile: rice can be used as a stand-alone dish, or it can be served as a side dish to meat, fish or vegetable dishes. Often this cereal product is included in drinks and desserts. The main methods of rice preparation include boiling in water or steaming.
The useful properties of rice are known to almost everyone, and that is why dishes from this product are available in almost every cuisine in the world: in China - rice cakes, noodles, rice vinegar and rice wine, in Japan - sushi and sake, in Italy - risotto, in Central Asia - a variety of pilaf, in England - pudding, and in Spain - paella.
Types of rice
Over many millennia of cultivation, more than one hundred varieties and species of rice have appeared. Three types of this product are distinguished by the shape of the grains: long-grain, medium-grain and round-grain. Each, in turn, includes a large number of varieties. In cooking, long-grain rice is usually cooked in crumbly dishes, soft-consistency dishes are made from medium-grain, and viscous porridge, desserts and sushi are made from round-grain.
In addition, we can talk about the types of rice, based on its color. Thus, white rice is the most popular, which is divided into steamed rice and ground rice according to the processing method. Another brown rice stands out, which is essentially ordinary white rice, but it does not go through all the stages of processing, therefore it retains its original color.
Recently, you can increasingly find black (wild) rice on sale, which differs from its cereal "brothers" in length and subtlety, as well as the presence of more useful substances.
