Berry jam

Berry jam...

The English word jam, which stands for a sweet treat of fruit or berries, has long been included in our daily routine and even diet. Based on the official terminology that is adopted in the food industry, jam is not jam, but a separate type of food that is cooked from fruits or berries in a syrup based on sugar, as well as honey. Moreover, the main difference between jams and jam is the consistency of the final product.

Fruit or berry jam will look more like a very dense jelly, sometimes with pieces of berries or fruit inside a sweet, smooth mass. Berry jams are the most popular. Often such a product is called fruit and berry jam, because the berry and fruit component is also present in the treat. Berry jams are also very popular, based on a mix of different types of berries, for example blackberries with blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, etc. You can choose your own components of the berry cocktail, which will become the basis of the jam.

What is noteworthy, the taste of berry jam is not much different from jam, because the treat is made from one component, only the process of product production changes. When making berry jam, the fruits are well boiled and softened, which allows you to achieve a jelly consistency of jams. Currently, you can easily find your favorite type of berry jam on the shelf of a nearby grocery store. However, it is indisputable that the most delicious berry jams are made only at home.

Food manufacturers are not particularly worried about the quality of the original ingredients. Often, in the composition of mass-produced berry jams, you can find various food additives. The use of dietary supplements for berry jam producers is economically justified. However, on the part of the consumer, this looks at least strange.

In the process of manufacture, and then during further preservation, berry jam acquires all the necessary consumer characteristics that allow you to save the final product longer. A reasonable question arises why then use food additives? Apparently in order to give more sweetness to the berry jam, as well as for a richer and brighter color of the product. All these arguments speak for a homemade berry jam that is incredibly easy to make on its own.

The main thing in the preparation of berry jam is the choice of high-quality ingredients and compliance with the recipe. It is believed that the most delicious berry jams are obtained from moderately acidic strawberry fruits, as well as raspberries, blackberries, cranberries and currants. Usually, the same amount of sugar is taken per kilogram of berries. Berries are placed in a basin, sugar is added and boiled not more than half an hour from the moment of boiling of berry jam. It is better not to exceed the jam cooking time so as not to deprive the product of useful properties. At the end, the berry jam is laid out in sterilized jars, allowed to cool the product, and then covered with lids.
