Donuts

Donuts...

Few people know that the first doughnuts began to be made in ancient Rome. More precisely, these were not quite donuts, but rather antique round-shaped pies that were fried in fat or lard. After heat treatment, the ancient doughnuts were poured with honey and sprinkled with poppy. As a result, a sweet and satisfying delicacy was obtained, which enjoyed enviable popularity among both the poor and noble segments of the population of Ancient Rome. Roman doughnuts were called globuli, this dish eventually settled in European cuisine during the Middle Ages.

However, in Europe, doughnuts began to be called crappfens. The shape of these doughnuts was distinctive and was a symbol similar to the English letter S. Dough for such doughnuts was made according to recipes that are most close to the modern interpretation of the bakery product. It is noteworthy that for each European state makes its own and distinctive type of donuts, which differ not only in name, but also in shape.

Types of doughnuts

The initial composition of doughnuts, as a rule, does not change much from the type of product. As a rule, the filling is placed on top of donuts, which have a rounded drying shape, with a hole in the middle of the bakery product. There are several types of culinary product that will differ in the composition of donuts, shape and filling. The following most popular types of donuts are distinguished:

a doughnut or round-shaped sweet patty fried in oil;

crumpet or yeast dough confection, which is also fried in oil and sprinkled with powdered sugar on top;

Norwegian doughnuts smultring or hjortetakk;

the Greek species of lucumades or lokma doughnuts;

the Berlin doughnut;

the American doughnut;

The calorie content of donuts depends on the composition and type of food. However, it is worth noting that low-calorie types of donuts simply do not exist, since the product production process involves frying dough in oil and using sugar for filling. As a rule, doughnuts include dough made from wheat flour, milk, chicken eggs, as well as sugar, powdered sugar, confectionery sprinkles and other ingredients that are needed to make a culinary product.
