Apples mantet

Apples mantet...

Despite the fact that Mantet apples belong to varieties of Canadian origin, in our country they are in stable demand among amateur gardeners. It is worth noting that Mantet apples were obtained at an experimental station located in Morden (Manitoba) as a result of free pollination from Moscow Grushovka seedlings. Today, this variety is included in the State Register for the Middle Volga and Central regions.

The apple tree of the Mantet variety is distinguished by its average growth strength, oval, rather rare crown, as well as strong skeletal branches that point upwards. Most often, 2-3 fruits are tied on the ring coat, while 4-5 pieces can be found much less often.

Mantet apples in a mature state are characterized by an average size - their mass, as a rule, hardly exceeds 90-100 grams. In rare cases, the maximum weight of fruits reaches 130 grams. In shape, the fruits are conical or round-oblong. The main color of apples of the Mantet variety is yellowish or greenish-yellow when fully ripe, while the cover is represented by a bright red speckled-striped blush of orange-red tones.

A small funnel in fruits is narrow, and the thickness and length of the peduncle of Manteth apples can vary depending on the position of the fruit. Seed fruit boxes are large, semi-open or open into the axis cavity. Small trihedral dark brown seeds of Mantet apples are distinguished by a small blunt tip.

Manteth's smooth, thin and delicate apple skin hides the tenderest, juiciest white flesh, which features a rather pleasing dessert flavour with a sourness. Mature fruits of this variety are great for both fresh consumption and preservation. You can make compotes from Mantet apples, cook jam, jams, see, pastille and a lot of other delicious and at the same time healthy treats.

A distinctive feature of Mantet apples is that the fruits overbrew quite quickly. So, on average, the consumer period of fruits after eating can last no more than ten to fifteen days. Young trees of this rapid-growing variety are quite fruitful, but with age the harvest becomes unstable, alternating over years. It is worth noting that during the years of abundant harvest, the fruits of the Mantet variety are small in size.

Thus, it must be said that the clear advantages of Mantet apples can be attributed to early (summer) ripening along with the dessert taste of the fruits. Nevertheless, they also have their drawbacks, including a tendency to be affected by scab (especially in wet years), a low commercial appearance of fruits along with a stretched ripening period and average winter hardiness of trees.
