Gala apples

Gala apples...

As you know, the Gala apple variety was artificially bred by cloning, thanks to which mature fruits are distinguished by a sweet taste and moderate aroma. To date, Gala apples are the most popular apples on the North American continent. They are valued as highly as Red and Golden Delishes apples.

Gala apples do not differ in size in size - as a rule, these are medium fruits weighing 120-145 grams. Usually they are characterized by reddish coloring with insignificant yellow-green or greenish vertical stripes. The calorie content of Gala apples is slightly higher than the nutritional value of many other varieties.

Moderately sweet Gala apples with a pleasant aroma and granular flesh have a thinner skin compared to other varieties of these fruit crops. Under the thinnest, dense and dry skin hides light yellow flesh, rather dense, juicy and brittle. The excellent sour-sweet taste of Gala apples is awarded a score of

4. 6 on a five-point scale. In addition, it is noteworthy that Gala apples are usually written according to three indicators - freshness, hardness and sweetness. The calorie content of Gala apples is 5

3. 7 kcal.

The detachable ripeness of Gala apples falls in the second decade of September, while it reaches consumer in November. At the expense of their superior qualities, Gala apples can be stored almost all year round, even though the length of their season is around 9-10 months. So, in storage facilities with natural cooling, the safety of fruits lasts 2-

2. 5 months, and in the refrigerator - up to six months. Gala apples are quite resistant to falls, which in turn contributes to the prolongation of storage.

It should be noted that the first seedlings of the apple of the Gala variety were obtained as a result of the crossbreeding of the Golden Delishes and Kidds Orange Red apple, which was bred in 1930 in New Zealand. Over time, the new variety began to gain popularity in North America and Britain.

Gala apples were one of the few non-English varieties that became popular among farmers and gardeners in the UK, who commercially started breeding this particular variety in 1980. As a result, to date, about twenty percent of the total British commercial production of these fruits belongs to Gala apples.

In addition, Gala apples served as the basis for the emergence of other new hybrid varieties, most of which were aimed at improving the color of the fruits. This is how the Royal Gala apple variety saw the light of day, in which the peel is distinguished by an even rich red color. Additionally, more than 20 hybrid varieties were bred, including a variety of fruits with a bright orange peel and stripes on a yellow background. Among the most famous hybrid varieties of Gala apples, Jazz and Delfoga stand out.
