Apples bogatyr
Currently, there are simply countless different varieties of apples, each of which differs not only in shape and color, but also in taste and aroma qualities. Some people like sweet-sweet fruits more, many people like apples with light acid, and there are those who prefer sour fruits.
Among all this diversity, the Bogatyr apple variety stands out. This variety is a representative of the domestic apple tree (Malus domestica), which was obtained as a result of crossing the varieties Renet Landsberg and Antonovka common. This significant event took place at the All-Russian Research Institute of Genetics and Breeding of Fruit Plants named after I. V. Michurin.
Since 1948, the Bogatyr apple variety has been under state test. Meanwhile, in 1971 it was included in the State Register for the North-West, Central Black Earth and Central regions of our country.
It is worth noting that the term of consumption of Bogatyr apples is late winter, that is, mature fruits can be stored until April. At the same time, the winter resistance of the plant is average, as well as resistance to scab of leaves (fruits - above average). The stable yield of apple trees of the Bogatyr variety is characterized as high - for example, more than ninety kilograms of fruits can be harvested from one tree in adulthood. Fruiting begins in the sixth to seventh year of the plant's life.
The tree of the Bogatyr variety itself is tall with a rounded or conical, spreading and at the same time rare crown. It bears fruit, as a rule, on rings, sometimes this happens on last year's growth.
Bogatyr apples are quite large - on average, the weight of fruits varies between 120-200 grams, but larger specimens are often found. Fruits are characterized by a flat round shape with a wide base, while they are slightly beveled to the calyx. The short or medium length of the peduncle is thick and firmly attached. Most often, the color of the skin of Bogatyr apples when peeled is greenish-yellow, but during storage it turns yellow. On the sunny side, light carmine tan is often found in fruits.
The white flesh of Bogatyr apples can be described as dense, slightly axial, crispy, fine-grained and fragrant. The mature fruits taste sour-sweet, belong to table varieties. Bogatyr apples can be used both in fresh form and in the form of blanks: compotes, mashed potatoes, jams, pastilles, soufflé, saw.
Nevertheless, this variety also has its drawbacks, among which, along with the average winter hardiness and insufficient resistance to scab, low rate stands out. However, the advantages of Bogatyr apples are much greater - annual yield, long-term storage and good fitness for various types of ecology.
