Mabolo

Mabolo...

As you know, otherwise the mabolo plant is called Blanco persimmon. The fact is that this fruit tree was named after the monk and botanist Blanco, a native of Spain, who was the first to describe in detail in his rather voluminous manuscript the nature of the Philippine Islands - in fact, they are the birthplace of the mabolo. Currently, mabolo is successfully grown not only there - trees can be found in Indonesia, Malaysia, as well as in the Antilles.

In appearance, mabolo is a fairly tall tree, which is distinguished by a black bark covered with deep furrows. The diameter of the mabolo trunk is about 80 centimeters. It is noteworthy that the black wood of this plant with an attractively dotted texture is used to make wooden weapons and furniture.

Among the tree's large, glossy, dark green leaves, sweet mabolo fruits ripen, which mostly grow in pairs and are suitable for consumption. Interestingly, when raw, mabolo fruits don't smell particularly good - some compare the scent to the cheesy scent that the French Caca de Chat cheese produces. However, some connoisseurs are not very juicy, but also not particularly dry pinkish fruit flesh with its aroma resembles a banana and an apple at the same time. The fruits of the mabolo are covered with a thin peel with a velvety cannon, which is reddish-brown in color.

As a rule, mabolo fruits are used as one of the components for fruit salad, but often they are fried in oil or stewed in sweet syrup. Due to the fact that hairs are present on the skin of the fruit, which irritate the throat and sky of a person, the peel is completely removed from them before using mabolo fruits for food. By the way, it is precisely due to the presence of these hairs that this fruit is often called velvet persimmon or velvet apple.

In addition to gastronomic qualities, the healing properties of mabolo are also known: in particular, the fruits of this plant contain a unique set of different medicinal substances. For example, mabolo fruits are an excellent natural source of iron, calcium, vitamin B and vegetable protein. In addition, leaves and bark of the tree are often used, from which medicinal decoctions are made, which can help with coughing, abdominal pain, fever and skin diseases.

It is worth noting that the use of mabolo as a healing agent can vary depending on countries. For example, in Southeast Asia, it is customary to treat diarrhea with juice of immature fruits, while Bangladeshis use them not only to treat diseases of the vascular system, but also as an effective remedy for eye ailments.
