Loganova berry

Loganova berry...

Loganova berry, also known by the name of the Logan berry plant, which is an octaploid hybrid resulting from the crossing of blackberries and raspberries. As a result of the work of breeders, two species of raspberry berry Rubus idaeus, as well as the blackberry Rubus vitifolius, gave a new species called Rubus ×loganobaccus or berry logans.

It is noteworthy that, as in the case of many new species of plants or products, the loganic berry was the result of a random experiment by scientists. In 1883, James Harvey Logan, an American lawyer and part-time breeder, began work crossing raspberries and blackberries on his land in Santa Cruz, California.

It is worth noting that Mr. Logan was looking for a commercially successful new species of blackberry, so he crossed various species of the plant. However, blackberry plantings were located next to the raspberry. As a result of such a neighborhood, James Logan received a new hybrid of raspberries and blackberries. The scientist named the new species after himself, and so the Logan berry or the berry logan occurred.

The logan berry soon gained distribution and popularity in the United States. The plant quickly adapted to the climatic conditions of the region. However, buyers were in no hurry to give their preference to logan berry and still acquired well-known species like raspberries or blackberries.

It was all about the specific taste of the logan berry, which was not to the taste of the vast majority of American buyers. Loganova berry had a pronounced taste that resembled raspberries. Then the breeders decided to continue the experiment to breed a new species of berries.

Hybrids such as:

Tay's berry (Tayberry) a hybrid of logan berry and black raspberry;

Young's berry (Youngberry) a hybrid of blackberry sise and logan berry;

Boysenberry berry is obtained by crossing raspberries, loggerberry and blackberries;

Santiam blackberry is bred when crossing logan berries and California blackberries;

olallic berry (Olallieberry) is a hybrid of black logan berry and young berry.

Loganova berry in its biological structure and appearance is surprisingly similar to raspberries. Unless the color of the logan berry is different from the classic raspberry. The berry differs from the blackberry of the loggerhead in the complete absence of spikes, as well as a high level of yield. Loganova berry also stands out for its large fruit size.

The chemical composition of the logan berry is enriched with vitamins of group B, A, as well as C. In addition, such undeniably useful compounds of natural origin as calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium and magnesium can be found in the composition of the logan berry.
