Uzwar...

A traditional cool drink called uzwar is usually made from fruits and berries (both dried and fresh) with the addition of natural honey. It is noteworthy that he comes from the word brew - unlike compotes, which require cooking, this drink is only enough to bring to a boil.

Western Ukraine is considered the birthplace of Uzvar, where for the first time this tasty and very healthy drink began to be made several centuries ago. Currently, uzwar and other drinks made on its basis are also very popular among all age groups of the population.

It is simply impossible to do without uzvar at the festive table on Christmas Eve - according to beliefs, it is he who, along with kutya, symbolizes the birth of Jesus Christ. In addition, uzvar was also prepared in the old days at the birth of a child. Then he symbolized a happy and favorable life. The dried fruits included in the uzvar, as well as fresh fruits, personified fertility, while honey was associated with sweet life. To prepare this drink in the old days, the hostesses dried apples and pears in advance on the oven, carefully cleaning them from seeds and tails.

Today, it will not be difficult to buy all the ingredients that are necessary to prepare uzvar - they are present in supermarkets or markets. Based on their preferences, you can make uzwar using any dried fruit, but apples, pears and raisins are still mandatory components. In addition, dried hawthorn fruits, prunes, dried apricots, fresh cherries, plums or blueberries can be added to the uzwar.

Nowadays, the uzvar acts not only as a drink symbolizing the arrival of Christmas, but also as an excellent natural cool for picnics. On hot summer days, it quenches its thirst perfectly thanks to its unique properties.
