Milkshake

Milkshake...

The famous drink and milkshake, beloved by many, appeared thanks to an old Irish alcoholic drink based on milk and whiskey. Currently, milkshake is referred to as soft drinks. It is not certain exactly when the first milkshake was made. However, with the greatest confidence, it can be considered that the birthplace of the non-alcoholic milkshake is the United States of America.

The very concept of cocktail came from the United States, when at the beginning of the 19th century local bartenders began to mix the first alcoholic cocktails. However, before the American version of milkshakes, in the drinking traditions of some European states there were recipes for alcoholic beverages based on milk. Non-alcoholic milkshakes began to be made during Prohibition. Alcohol was banned, but people still came to bars, where they were served non-alcoholic milkshakes, in which they could add an alcohol ingredient "from under the floor" for a decent amount of money.

Milkshake composition

It was in the 30s of the XX century that old Irish drinking traditions and egg-foot drink were remembered in the era of jazz and Prohibition. It is believed that the milkshake began to be made based on the recipe for the egg-foot drink. True, the composition of the milkshake differed from the original. Egg-legs refers to alcoholic cocktails based on milk, eggs and alcohol. In addition, spices are necessarily added to the drink. The classic composition of a milkshake includes milk, cream or ice cream, in which fruits or fruit syrups, chocolate, vanilla and caramel are added to taste.

Then all the ingredients are thoroughly beaten with a mixer or blender and served in tall glasses with straw. Often, confectionery sprinkles (chocolate, nuts, coconut chips), syrups are added to a ready-made milkshake, the most popular include strawberry, chocolate and banana, as well as confectionery cream. The calorie content of a milkshake depends only on the composition of the final product. The average calorie content of a milkshake is at 86 Kcal.

If you use low-fat milk in a milkshake, and replace ice cream with ice, you get a dietary version of a smoothie cocktail. The drink is recommended by doctors and nutritionists as a product of a healthy and balanced diet. An interesting fact from the history of milkshakes. The world famous fast food under the brand name "McDonalds" gained its first popularity thanks to excellent milkshakes, which were once made and sold by one of the founders of the company Ray Krok.

The fact is that in the 50s of the XX century, milkshakes reached unprecedented popularity. Shake or milkshake became a national drink and symbol of the US, so the McDonald brothers didn't lose it when they commissioned Mr Crock to develop the fast food chain in every state in America and later around the world.
