Golden rum

Golden rum...

Since ancient times, rum has been the main drink of seafarers. Moreover, this is equally relevant for both pirates and soldiers of the royal British troops of the 19th century. In addition to pleasant taste and delicate smell, it has an unlimited shelf life, has excellent antiseptic and warming properties. Conditionally, rum can be divided into several categories - white, dark, aged and gold. We will talk more about the latter.

Golden rum is an alcoholic drink that is made by fermentation and distillation from by-products of sugar cane production, such as cane syrup or molasses. After distillation, it is usually aged in solid oak barrels. The homeland of Roma is the Caribbean. It is there that about 80% of this wonderful drink is made.

The golden rum has one distinctive feature that distinguishes it favorably from its "counterparts. " The fact is that it works equally well for both cooking and cocktails. Moreover, some prefer to use it solo or in combination with ice.

Raw Materials

As we have already noted, rum is a product of fermentation and distillation of by-products. Quite often molasses is used in its composition. It serves as the main raw material. According to statistics, up to 90% of all rum is made from it. Much less often, cane juice or cane pulp is used in production. Of course, the quality of the final product largely depends on the quality of the components.

Rum exposure

This process plays almost the most important role. Golden rum is aged in new or already used oak barrels for about 2 years. Often, when the drink is specially transported to a country with a temperate climate in order to avoid possible evaporation. Strong varieties of golden rum cost about 6 years, but this is a rarity. Immediately after, the alcohol is purified with activated carbon and mixed in the necessary proportions with color, sugar syrup and water. Quite often blending technology is used in the manufacture.

Gold rum is imprinted on the label with the words gold, amber, oro and paille. As a rule, it is aged for 1-2 years. To preserve the golden hue, it does not specifically take part in the filtration procedure. There are frequent cases when the color of the drink is adjusted by adding a small amount of caramel.
