Tincture

Tincture...

In addition to the therapeutic liquid, which is sold in pharmacies, there is also a product of the same name, which is used both as an independent strong alcoholic drink and is used in the preparation of various dishes. Tincture is made in a rather simple way - by infusing various fruits, spices, seeds and herbs on alcohol. This process lasts until all biologically active substances and essential oils are completely converted to alcohol. The finished product should be stored in tightly sealed bottles, which should be dark in color.

Depending on the strength and ingredients included in this drink, bitter and sweet tinctures are distinguished (the latter are close to liqueurs). Sweet tinctures are made with alcohol infusions, fruit and berry juices, citric acid and sugar syrup. Such drinks are distinguished by a large sugar content and a strength of no more than 30 degrees. As for bitter tinctures, they are produced from a blend of alcohol infusions with various roots, herbs, leaves, seeds, citrus zest, flavored alcohols and alcoholic solutions of essential oils. The strength of such drinks is much higher - 30-60 degrees.

Bitter tinctures or bitters are largely different from other highly alcoholic beverages. So, unlike alcohol created for pleasure, bitter tincture was originally created for exclusively medical purposes. But at a time of cocktail culture popularity, the product has been a great addition to mixed drinks, thanks to its strong aroma and tonic properties.

Bitters have become popular in almost all countries of the world, and the range of products that are used to make tinctures directly depends on the natural characteristics of the country. Almost everything is used - St. John's wort, juniper, hina, lemon, gentile, hot pepper and much more. And the number of ingredients in the recipe can be very different - from 1 to a couple of dozen.
