The Pina Colada cocktail got its original name thanks to the Spanish phrase "Piña colada" (piña colada), which literally means "strained pineapple. " The Spanish name was adapted for domestic connoisseurs and bartender professionals, so the Spanish Piña colada transformed into a cocktail called Pina Colada.

The classic Pina Colada composition includes the following ingredients: coconut milk, alcohol, usually rum and pineapple juice.

A Pina Colada cocktail appeared in the Caribbean islands. Islanders have long made a refreshing drink based on pineapple juice. It is noteworthy that initially Pin Kolada included only freshly squeezed pineapple juice, which was filtered in a special way. Much later, rum was added to Piña Colada. The Spanish conquistadors adopted the recipe for the drink Pina Colada and brought the recipe to their historical homeland.

From the territory of Spain, Pina Colada's drink penetrated into other European states, and then spread around the world. Currently, the Pina Colada cocktail is a mandatory item in the boiler list of most restaurants and drinking establishments. However, the modern recipe for the Pin Colad cocktail was invented only in the middle of the 20th century. One of the bartenders in Puerto Rico came up with a recipe for a Pin Colad cocktail with coconut milk, pineapple juice and rum. The new version of Pina Kolada's drink soon enough took root in the menu of local drinking establishments.

In the 60s of the last century, the Pin Colad cocktail was officially codified by the International Bartender Association or IBA. Since then, the Pina Colada cocktail has continued its victorious procession. There are several types of Pina Colada cocktails that differ in the composition of the original ingredients. Among the most popular are the following types of Pina Colada cocktails:



Virgin Piña colada, a non-alcoholic cocktail that lacks rum, in fact, this is an ancient Caribbean refreshing drink;

Miami Weiss, sometimes called the "Lava Stream" cocktail, the drink differs in that the original ingredients include strawberry Daiquiri - the famous Cuban cocktail;

Chi Chi, the cocktail is made with vodka, not rum;

Amarettocolada features a combination of liqueur, rum and pineapple juice;
