Mead at home

Mead at home... 34 servings
42 days 3 hours

This is an old drink of our ancestors, which has delighted and inspired the Slavs for more than a century. The main ingredient of the drink is honey, and the rest of the ingredients already depended on the owners preparing this hop drink. And although only 4 ingredients were included in the traditional classic mead recipe, experienced hostesses complemented its honey taste with berries or fruits, tea or herbal infusions. In addition to ingredients from the cooking list, you will need: - enameled or stainless saucepan; - glass jar or bottle for ripening; - gauze for straining; - special "wine" cap or rubber glove; - a warm place for ripening; - glass container for storage of the finished product.
1. Dilute the prepared pan with honey water, add hops and bring the mixture to a boil over low heat. Cook for two hours. Important! If the water boils, it must be added during cooking.

2. We allow the obtained honey base to cool to a temperature of 40 degrees, after which we filter it into a prepared glass container, add yeast. Cover the neck with a lid (or glove) and leave to wander in a warm place for 17-21 days.

4. After the above time, the drink is already quite hoppy - it can be strained and poured into small bottles with ordinary stoppers. If you can't wait at all, you can already try it, but for a more refined taste, it is advisable to leave the mead to settle in a cool place for another three weeks. Serving this drink is recommended chilled!
