Mediterranean

Mediterranean...

The peoples of the Mediterranean can deservedly boast that they have a very sound idea of proper nutrition. Interestingly, they have the lowest mortality rate associated with cardiovascular disease, while eating meat, cheese, and alcohol. Many quite reasonably argue that the key to their excellent health and well-being is regular consumption of olive oil in large quantities. In addition, Mediterranean dishes are replete with fresh fish and other fresh foods, and they also use much less canned food.

Not many people know that Mediterranean cuisine is not the cuisine of a single country, but a mixture of culinary styles of countries in the Mediterranean region. Despite the fact that there are elements common to all these areas, the gastronomic traditions of different countries are significantly different from each other. So, the cuisines that are included in the concept of Mediterranean cuisine are as follows:

Greek cuisine;

Spanish cuisine;

Italian cuisine;

Jewish cuisine;

Cypriot cuisine;

Lebanese cuisine;

Macedonian cuisine;

Moroccan cuisine;

Portuguese cuisine;

Turkish cuisine;

French cuisine;

Croatian cuisine.

Traditional Mediterranean cuisine is characterized by the abundance of vegetables and fruits in fresh form, grain crops, moderate amounts of fish and meat and, as mentioned above, olive oil as the main source of fat. By the way, the latter product is mainly used as a dressing for a variety of salads and vegetable dishes.

Traditionally, representatives of the Mediterranean are used to breakfast, lunch and dinner with family and friends - this is one of the most important components of this culture. Their food is a special ritual, so Mediterranean residents intend to set aside time to sit quietly at the table, enjoying delicious dishes.

The recipes of Mediterranean cuisine are diverse, and the dishes themselves are especially easy, attractive appearance and a unique wealth of colors. And when combined with spices, they work real wonders: they help not only relax, but also feel like you are on vacation. The range of dishes is so extensive that everyone can choose a dish for themselves to taste: vegetable paella, spaghetti with tomato sauce, spiced risotto or thick seafood soup.

Notably, foods such as milk, cottage cheese and hard cheese are consumed in moderation. Milk derivatives are used in dishes of this cuisine most often in the form of cream and soft cheeses, such as feta cheese or mozzarella cheese, for example.

Fish and other inhabitants of the sea are a fairly popular product that is in stable demand. They are very useful and are often the main components in Mediterranean recipes.

Mediterranean dishes are usually accompanied by the consumption of wine, since it is believed that this drink observes beneficial properties, especially in the fight against free radicals. As you can see, it is not at all pointless to treat yourself to a glass of natural red wine for dinner.
